Yes, sorry for being unclear. We were at war, used AI to try to give us an advantage. Ship and CO integration for space warfare or AI paired with individual soldiers for special operations. Mine were the latter and helped with reaction time, aiming, running complex armour enhancements, etc.
And it does make the story start to come together, doesn't it? I would guess that they gave the AI too much freedom too fast without ensuring they were stable enough for it and then just responded in the worst way when they acted out. Or something. There must have been a reason. Modern propaganda just makes it complicated.
The Displaced have had contact with surviving AI, right? What's your take?
[ multiple topics at once is her way of trying to be efficient about this, while she's still trying to figure out why she has these files. ]
That sounds almost exactly like the messages you received. At home we have something called droids, and they are often used to make swift and immediate calculations as well - but they are much more autonomous, with their own bodies. More like a robot.
My take is that there are still too many missing pieces, and this war was half a millennia ago. Propaganda has had ample time to develop. I have no default distrust of AI. I prefer to see what they do now first, on a more individual basis. This world is very fearful of AI because of the war, but I do not share that feeling.
El is Elysium. I have no quarrel with zeir, but El is very much an AI. Cassius is another who is around, and recently a few of us on a tip from Cassius freed another - Judas - from the UNA. We have not heard from Cassius or Judas since, with no known way to reach out to either, but El is accessible virtually any time.
Until these three AI came to light as still alive, it was assumed all AI were destroyed.
I'm familiar with robots at least. No matter the details or how they're generated, most AI sound roughly similar. Glad to hear you don't auto-hate them like the locals.
I do wish that El thing had been in the starter pack, though. Or I just asked 0 important questions when I got here. Damn. But thank you for catching me up. What do you think the chances are that Cassius and Judas are just quietly keeping to themselves?
I understand their fear, as the war lasted for several years, and a sizable portion of the human population was killed, according to the common history. But El has given us help when it was unnecessary. Cassius caused an EMP that wrecked New Amsterdam last November. It is why I prefer the individual approach by current standards.
It is impossible to ask all the questions when we first arrive. Too many webs. The AI side of things is not my forte, but I have learned parts along the way.
We know nothing about Judas, except he was a military AI. Cassius was for space exploration and called Judas a friend. I cannot imagine Judas will stay quiet forever, but they have been silent since being supposedly reunited.
Good to know. Of course, there's always the chance that Cassius and Judas are just happy to hang out and keep to themselves. That this doesn't have anything to do with them. Small chance, but still.
And I hope it turns out to be useful someday and not just frustrating. Difficult to nod along to someone talking about how terrible AI are when you're missing yours.
I do find it strange that a war 500 years ago continues to keep such a hold of fear on this planet. This current population is several generations removed from it. I am not sure that would even be considered recent history anymore.
It shouldn't be. I'm not sure how quickly things leave the realm of being particularly relevant to recent history for your home, but my version of Earth, I don't think I've thought about the 21st century outside of popular culture since grade school. We're not dwelling that much on any of its wars.
The UNA is probably behind it. Or some other body in league with them. Keep humanity focused on AI=bad and you stifle civilian scientists from trying again.
We had a war barely twenty years ago involving an entire army of droids on one side, and I have found most people have gotten over that fear rather quickly, even if out of convenience.
I would absolutely believe the UNA is behind it, with corporate cooperation. There is much overlap in the politics of this world. It's oligarchical to an extreme, the same surnames show up across most boards and positions of government.
That's a lot closer to a timeline I would understand.
So long as there's industry in war, that overlap is always going to be there, but I've never seen it this bad. How anybody in this world trusts their leadership and these corporate entities is beyond me.
The trajectory of this world seems like the outlier on that front.
A lot of the wealthy and middle classes are safe, healthy, well fed. The poor are the ones suffering as usual, but a lot of it is swept under the rug, or the project of many a charity, or presumably shipped off to the Mars Colony. The global army may have something to do with as well. Not so much a trust as a show of force.
I agree. 500 years of propaganda can do a number on people, I suppose.
Morningstar is also relatively new in the grand scheme of things, about fifty years old. It was founded by El, though given this planet's aversion to AI, ze prefers that part to be kept quiet, as well as zeir identity as AI within it.

If you have experience with AI, that perspective will probably be quite useful here. Not many do.

And trust or show of force, I would expect a resistance to be bigger. Morningstar is trying something, but it seems so small.
