I know. I suppose I just wanted to see... what it would do. Or feel like.
[ he is aware that he is using the word feel as jyn does just that, her fingers brushing behind his ear and lingering against him after the fact. he finds he does not mind the way her hand sits there, against him. ]
[ the choice wasn't entirely all logic based, but probably only jyn could pull it out of him. he's never thought of himself as curious either, because it's not the same as wanting to know things, not in his head. ]
If it can be turned on and off, maybe it can partially be a habit. [ it feels more like a habit to him! he doesn't prioritize curiosity in that sense. but maybe he'd like to. ]
[ he wrinkles his nose, very much on purpose. ]
No. But I think I would regret if I had gone with a more dramatic change.
[ she is always curious, cassian. it's just not as often that she has the opportunity to be as endlessly curious as she is during their downtime. it isn't like she had time to read through dean's entire library back on wrea or in prison. ]
Don't change your eyes. If we get another chance.
[ his ears, his hair, height, he could do all sorts of things, explore all sorts of differences, indulge his curiosity as far as he likes. except his eyes. ]
[ even if they are worms! he better be a worm with pretty brown eyes. ]
I'm sure we will have loads of opportunities for you to perfect your purposeless curiosity. Like... now. [ she points up at the stars without looking away from him. ] Look at those stars, they're not ours. They're not going to help us, but aren't you curious about them?
[ it makes him feel some type of way that he does not want to unpack. she likes his eyes. cassian knows, objectively, his face and its features can be an asset, but there isn't anything to be gained here from jyn liking his eyes. he hadn't been trying. ]
[ she just likes them. ]
[ he doesn't know what to say, so he's glad when she spins the conversation to the stars, eagerly looking up to avoid looking at her. but it might be the first time he's really looked at them the way she implies. ]
I had not thought about them much before, beyond noting their unfamiliarity. [ he pauses. ] Tell me something you noticed about them.
That one looks green. [ she points but it isn't as if he will be able to follow the line to the same star, especially not with how many their are winking in the ink-dark sky. ]
Maybe it's not even a star, it could be a planet they've not discovered yet. Or a blue moon so far away we can't track it's orbit around some other star.
[ it's hard to follow where she's pointing, but he does look across the sky for green. he finds something greenish, but whether or not they're looking at the same object is anyone's guess. ]
I wonder if they think about other planets here. Or what think the different colors mean. [ it hadn't occurred to him to find out. he knows they're stars, he's been through the stars. ]
[ he stares up at it, trying very hard to just Be Curious. ] There are a few blue-ish green ones.

It isn't like I practice.
[ but it was learned. ]
Do you regret it?

[ he glances at her with surprise in his eyes, the ones she apparently does not want him to change. ]
Not even if it would help in the next mission?
